Tom Creed
Theatre & Dance
Tom is Associate Director of Rough Magic, and a co-founder and joint Artistic Director of Playgroup. He studied English and Philosophy at UCC, and trained as a director on Rough Magic’s SEEDS programme and at the National Theatre Studio, London. Directing credits for Rough Magic include Life is a Dream, Attempts on her Life (for which he was nominated for Best Director at the 2007 Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards), Dream of Autumn, and 4.48 Psychosis as part of the SEEDS 2 showcase. He has directed all of Playgroup’s productions to date: The Heights, The Art of Swimming, The Train Show, Dark Week, Soap!, Crave and Integrity. He has also directed for Making Strange, Samuel Beckett Centre, Once Off Productions, Raymond Scannell/Tobacco Factory Bristol, Dublin Youth Theatre, Activate Youth Theatre and Meridian, and is on the board of the Dublin Fringe Festival and the Association of Theatre Directors Ireland. |

The Dresden Group
Classical Music Curator
The Dresden Group, a highly talented ensemble brought together especially for Kilkenny, is comprised of the Kapellquintett Dresden (wind quintet), of the renowned Sachsische Staatskapelle Dresden, one of the world’s top orchestras, along with colleagues who are currently, or have been, closely linked to the musical life of Dresden as members of either the Staatskapelle or the Dresden Philharmonic, and who are now with some of the other leading orchestras in Germany. Completing the ensemble is acclaimed pianist Paul Rivinius. United by their rich tradition and deep passion for chamber music, these exceptional musicians have devised a colourful programme of music which includes some of the classics of mixed chamber ensembles and also explores the fascinating and extremely different approach to chamber music by composers in the first half of the 20th century.

Susan Proud
Classical Music Curator
Susan studied viola with Herbert Pöche at the College of Music and chamber music with John Beckett at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Further studies on viola da gamba were undertaken with Christian Noorde in Amsterdam. In the 1970s, Susan served on the board of the Dublin Arts Festival and, since moving to Kilkenny in the early 1980s, she has been a Board Member of Kilkenny Arts Festival and the Butler Gallery. As administrator of Music in Kilkenny, Susan organises concerts throughout the year in Kilkenny city and county. Classical Music CuratorShe has played baroque viola with the Irish Baroque Orchestra, the Chandos Baroque Players and Camerata Kilkenny. |

Hugh Mulholland
Visual Art Curator
Originally from Lurgan, Co Armagh, Hugh Mulholland is Director of The Third Space gallery in Belfast and also works as a freelance curator. Hugh was commissioner of the inaugural Northern Irish Pavilion at the 2005 Venice Biennale and also curated the Northern Ireland presence at the 2007 Biennale. He was Director of the Ormeau Baths Gallery, Belfast from 1997 to 2006, and was previously the founder and Director of Context Gallery in Derry. |

Colm Tóibín
Literature Curator
A native of Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford, Colm Tóibín lived in Spain for many years. He has been a fellow at the Center for Scholars and Writers at New York Public Library, Stein Visiting Writer at Stanford University and a visiting professor at the University of Texas at Austin. His novels include The South (1991), The Heather Blazing (1992), The Story of the Night (1996), The Blackwater Lightship (1999), and The Master, which was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize in 2005 and won the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award in 2006. A collection of short stories, Mothers and Sons, was also published in 2006. He is a member of Aosdána and lives in Dublin. |

Gerry Godley
Jazz, New World and Traditional Music Curator
As Director of the resource organisation Improvised Music Company, jazz and world music aficionado Gerry Godley has been responsible for bringing some of the most exciting international music performers to Ireland in recent years. His diverse programmes include the 12 Points! Festival, the critically acclaimed World Music Series Routes in Rhythm, IMC Records and The Pendulum Jazz Club. He has curated the music strand of Kilkenny Arts Festival since 2005 and presents “Reels to Ragas” on Tuesdays and Thursdays on Lyric FM. |

Wired Programme Curator
Dublin-based music ensemble 3epkano specialise in producing original and innovative soundtracks for films from the silent movie era. Critically-acclaimed for their headline shows in Ireland and the US, 3epkano have also been commissioned to produce new music for such prestigious institutions as the National Gallery of Ireland, Film Society of Lincoln Center and Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York. They have released two albums to date and perform their brand new scores for Sunrise and The Cat and the Canary at this year’s Kilkenny Arts Festival.

Young People's Programme Curator
Emer is Director of Draíocht, the Centre for the Arts in Blanchardstown, Dublin and has twenty years experience working in the arts. Emer has curated the Children and Young People’s Programme of Kilkenny Arts Festival for the last three years and in that time has overseen the significant development and expansion of the festival’s events for young audiences
